BSc Foreign Service, Georgetown University, magna cum laude

MSc [Econ] Politics of the World Economy, London School of Economics & Political Science

PhD International Relations, London School of Economics & Political Science

I am a Senior Lecturer in International Relations at the University of Sussex, having held previous of positions at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) and the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). At SOAS I was affiliated with both the Department of Politics and International Studies and also the Centre for International Studies and Diplomacy. I studied at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. and hold an MSc [Econ] and PhD from the  London School of Economics, during which time I was a tutorial fellow and a member of the editorial team of Millennium: Journal of International Studies.

My research interests are in contemporary international relations theory, ethics and continental philosophy, focusing especially on critical theory and post-structuralist thought. My recent research projects included an exploration of the notion of coexistence through Heideggerian philosophy, as well an examination of the geopolitical and international thought of Carl Schmitt in the context of the ‘War on Terror’ .

I have recently begun work on a new project exploring the international writings of Carl Schmitt and his interlocutors, such as Reinhart Koselleck, Giorgio Agamben, Michael Hardt and Antonio Negri, in order to analyse the global liberal order emerging in the ‘post-Westphalian era’ as a global civil war’. This will lead to a manuscript provisionally entitled Global Civil War: Order, Violence and Enmity in the Post-Westphalian Era.
