I am a Senior Lecturer in International Relations at the University of Sussex, having held previous of positions at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) and the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). At SOAS I was affiliated with both the Department of Politics and International Studies and also the Centre for International Studies and Diplomacy. I studied at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. and hold an MSc [Econ] and PhD from the London School of Economics, during which time I was a tutorial fellow and a member of the editorial team of Millennium: Journal of International Studies.
My research interests are in contemporary international relations theory, ethics and continental philosophy, focusing especially on critical theory and post-structuralist thought. My research projects included an exploration of the notion of coexistence through Heideggerian philosophy, as well an examination of the global liberal order through the geopolitical and international thought of Carl Schmitt in the context of the ‘War on Terror’ . Since 2009, I have been conducting research on the subjectivising effects of human rights and the implications of these for our practices of dissent and the politics of resistance. This research will lead to a manuscript provisionally entitled The Reign of Rights.
